Christmas 2000 Party
December 16, 2000 was when it happened: the 10th annual Christmas party of St. Scholastica's College Alumnae Association Canada (SSCAAC). Held at the Rodeo Walk Condominium party room in North York through the sponsorship of Baby Luz, sister-in-law to Nina Luz-Debanne and Mita Luz-de Manuel, the party was attended by officers and members of the association and their families.
As in past gatherings of SSCAAC, food was aplenty: delicious paella from Thelma Arranzazo-Soriano; oodles of noodles from Emy Borlaza-Telesforo and her sister, Anggie McAdoo, and variations on the same theme from Nina and Mita; shanghai spring rolls from Zennie Lat-Bernardo; delightful siomai from Liling and Corito Fiel; Christmas ham from Ging Esquivel-Suazo; spicy chicken wings from Gwen Flor; assorted salads from Tess Salazar-Haab and Boots Delgado-Montano; tuna casserole from Vicky Azzaraga; yummy desserts from Boots and her sisters Millie Nowakowsky and Marita Enriquez, and Myra Salonga, among others.
The evening began with a thanksgiving prayer and an acknowledgement of benefactors, including families and friends, who have consistently been supportive of SSCAAC's fund-raising projects. Association President Myra Salonga cited in particular, the generous support of Karl Haab, owner/president of the New Conservatory of Music, and husband to Tessie, who
has not only been a financial benefactor to SSCAAC but has also allowed use of the conservatory's facilities for choir practices.
An announcement of the year 2000's carolling efforts indicated the choir raised almost $2000 in three days of carolling. Christmas carolling has been the principal activity of the choir for the past 6 years. Myra also reported on the 10th year anniversary activities, which culminates in a dinner-dance on May 4, 2001. Millie Nowakowsky, Chair of TEN: A SCHOLASTICAN CELEBRATION, spoke of the need for support from SSCAAC members through the sale of tickets to the dinner-dance, sponsorships and advertising. Among projected expenses will be a round-trip airfare for Sr. Placid and a donation to her music
ministry.
