Subject: PAX Award
Dear Gloria,
Warmest greetings of peace! Every year, St. Scholastica's College (SSC) confers the PAX Award (our highest award) to an outstanding alumna who has exemplified in her life and work the true spirit and character of Benedictine education. The PAX Award symbolizes the dedication and commitment of the awardee to the improvement of the quality of life of her people and country wherever she may be. The tireless effort you continuously exert and the courage you manifest in fighting for the rights of Filipinos in the United States as well as the other minority groups who are oppressed, exploited and marginalized truly speak of the Benedictine character in you. You have become a source of inspiration for many who see that it is only through societal transformation that we can live equally and in peace.
This year, as we at SSC hold our graduation exercises for batch 2002, it is with great honor and pride to let you know that you have been chosen as recipient of the 2002 PAX Award. You have made the Scholastican community proud of you as you stand side by side with other PAX Awardees like President Corazon Aquino, Justice Cecilia Muņoz-Palma, National Artist Lucrecia Kasilag, Mother General Irene Dabalus, OSB, Mother Prioress Angelica Leviste, OSB, Doreen Fernandez, Clarissa Ocampo, Ceres Doyo, among others. Indeed, all of you continue to bring honor and pride not only to your alma mater but to your country as well.
We would be pleased if you can be with our graduates on 24 March 2002 during the College's commencement exercises. This is our way of honoring our PAX Awardee and for the graduating class to witness a role model of the highest calibre. As tradition dictates, our PAX Awardee gives a short (not more than 15 minutes) inspirational talk to the graduating class highlighting how Benedictine education has shaped her life and molded her into what she is today.
Despite the lack of financial resources on our part to cover your plane fare, we will be greatly honored to have you with us on 24 March 2002. The graduation ceremonies will be held in our school grounds and will start at 3:30 p.m. We would appreciate receiving confirmation from you vis-a-vis your being able to come for this memorable occasion.
Congratulations! We at St. Scholastica's College are truly proud of you.
Sincerely in Christ Jesus,
Sr. Mary John Mananzan, OSB
President
