January 11, 2006 President's Report to the Membership Dear
Scholastican, |
|
A Blessed and Abundant New Year 2006 to everyone, filled with good health, more wealth and success! We began the year 2005 with our first ever Annual Day of Lenten Recollection on February 19th with Fr. Winston Rye, S.J., Superior of Upper Canada Fathers as our Spiritual Director. It was overwhelmingly successful and blessed day, attended by Scholasticans, parishioners, CWL members, family, friends and colleagues.
Our Summer Clambake on July 9th, was a day of fun and laughter, sumptuous food and desserts and most enjoyable company of alumnae family and friends.
Come September, our SSC Alumnae Choir commenced its ten (10) Saturdays of practices prior to our Annual Caroling Nights in the last weekend of November 26th and 27th and first 2 weekends of December 3rd, 4th and 10th. . As you are all aware, these caroling fundraising events are in support of the SSC Scholarships and the Music Ministry of Sr. Mary Placid Abejo, OSB, Alumnae Moderator.
The SSCAAC 2005 Christmas Party on December 11th was a resounding success, attended not only by our Scholastican families but also by our generous caroling donors and friends. It was an evening of gourmet food, beautiful music, endless singing, countless friendships and pleasant memories.
We had a record breaking Caroling event which has surpassed our goal. A truly remarkable team effort! We made a total of $3,902.25, out of which we sent a partial remittance on December 22nd of C$2,500.00 for the benefit of the Music Ministry. Please be advised that Donations towards the SSC Scholarships will be remitted to coincide with the Grand Alumnae Homecoming on December 3, 2006 during our Centennial Celebrations.
Once again, it is most fitting to start the year 2006 with our Second Annual Lenten Day of Recollection which will always be scheduled every first Saturday following Ash Wednesday. This year, we have invited Fr. Michael McGourty of the St. Augustine Seminary to lead us in our spiritual journey. Fr. McGourty is a dynamic and eloquent speaker and has a Doctorate in Sacred Liturgy. The topic will therefore focus on Liturgy in preparation for Lent. Kindly remember to put the date of Saturday, March 4, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Parish in Richmond Hill, in your calendars! More details to follow.
We have other constructive and exciting plans in store for you in
anticipation of our forthcoming, once-in-a-lifetime 100 years SSC
celebrations, and you will all be kept posted as developments occur.
In the meantime, we encourage everyone to consider making a sentimental
journey to our Alma Mater in the Philippines and join many of us who
will be attending this most awaited Milestone - the Centennial!
