St.
Scholastica's College Alumnae Association, Canada - Ontario Chapter 27 Courtney Crescent Richmond Hill, Ontario L4E 4C2 |
| October
31, 2001 Dear
Scholasticans: Re:
Report to the Membership It
is my sincere hope that most of you, if not all, are aware that Sr. Mary
Placid Abejo, O.S.B., Dean of Music and Alumnae Moderator
was here in Toronto from October 12 to 21, 2001. On October 14th, a small gathering of members was held
in her honour,
at the New Conservatory of Music School at 4466 Sheppard Avenue, East,
Toronto, at which occasion our new set of officers was formally inducted
by Sr. Mary Placid. For your information, the following members were nominated for the following positions:
Nina declined for family health reasons; Pearly volunteered to head a committee in the future but is not ready to be actively involved at present; Thelma is not available due to job pressure; Vicky was nominated and elected in absentia, due to the fact that Corito will be going back to Manila by year-end; Emy volunteered to be secretary in charge of membership records, so that the association could have Itos as our Auditor. Below are our newly elected and duly inducted officers for St. Scholastica's College Alumnae Association Canada - Ontario Chapter:
The
highlight of the affair was the awarding of the association's donation
of C$7,000.00 from the net proceeds of our 10th year
Anniversary Celebration held on May 4th, to Sr. Mary Placid - $3,500.00 towards her Music Ministry
and $3,500.00 for the Scholarship Fund. We also made a special donation to Fr. James
Reuter, S.J., (through
Sr. Placid) of C$1,000.00 for his hospital for the poor project. (Please refer to pertinent letters published in our website). This
reunion with Sr. Placid had a good turn-out, about 60 people altogether,
alumnae with their husbands and children, lots of food, lots of fun and
adequate time to socialize and keep up with the latest news from SSC
Manila. As
we embark on a new era of Scholastican leadership, we ask all members for
their generosity, prayers and assistance in achieving our goals and in
ensuring the success of our future projects, which will be announced
later. For
now, we will establish and maintain liaison with St. Scholastica's Alumnae
Association in New York, California and Vancouver. Incidentally,
there will be a SSAA Reunion in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 20 - 24, 2002.
It would be great if many of us can attend.
We will give you more info as we receive them.
Please let any of the officers know if you would like to attend
since we are trying to get good airline and hotel deals. We
have started our carolling practice. This year's annual carolling will not be a fund raising event.
We would like to give back to the communities which have supported
us in the past 7 years and therefore, we will be singing Christmas carols
at Senior Citizens homes to bring them cheer. This is our way of saying
"thank you" for our successes in the
past! Dependably
yours,
