St. Scholastica's College Alumnae in Toronto Celebrate 10th Anniversary
On Friday, May 4th,
2001 St. Scholastica's College Alumnae Association Canada (SSCAAC) celebrated
its tenth year anniversary. In the balloon-festooned hall of Famee Furlane
Toronto, over 300 guests composed of Scholasticans, their families and friends,
gathered together for a two-piano concert, dinner and dancing that lasted until
1am.
The school colours, blue and white, were the colours of the evening; formal wear
was the dress code. TEN: A Scholastican Celebration was an evening of
celebration of ten years of an organization whose members have been espousing
causes---from scholarships to the renovation of the school's concert
hall---spearheaded by St. Scholastica's College Manila. This was the first big
event of the association, and the officers and committee members pulled all the
stops to ensure its success.
Myra Salonga, President, St. Scholastica's College Alumnae Association Canada,
read a message from Sr. Mary Placid, Alumnae Moderator and SSC Dean of Music,
who was unable to join the celebration. In her welcome address Salonga
enumerated the projects that have been supported by the alumnae association in
the last ten years through activities such as garage sales, fun nights and
Christmas carolling. She also introduced the officers and committee members and
thanked them for their contribution to the association's projects. As well,
Salonga acknowledged the advertisers and patrons, some of them consistent
benefactors, for their financial contributions.
To open the concert, St. Scholastica's College Alumnae Association Choir played
a medley on the angklung, Indonesian bamboo orchestral instruments, and led
alumnae in singing the fealty song. This was followed by TWO FOR THE SHOW, the
evening's highlight, featuring piano and vocal duets. Pianists Elsieta Arao and
Milagros Macuja-Markun, both graduates of SSC's school of music, played duets by
Francisco Buencamino, Sr. and JS Bach. Myra Salonga, soprano, and Romeo Candido,
tenor, sang Nasaan Ka, Irog by Nicanor Abelardo, as intermission number.
Dancing, a 50-50 raffle, door prizes and silent auction comprised the rest of the programme. Momentum Sounds provided the dance music and Sunny Paragas was emcee.
